Cigna said recently it is making a big move to another state that will ultimately result in the recruitment for insurance jobs in Connecticut.

Cigna announced it will receive $50 million in economic benefits from the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development and will add at least 200 jobs within the next two years, increasing the company’s employment in the state to more than 4,000.

In addition, the company said it will make a significant investment in capital improvements and technology infrastructure to upgrade its facilities in Connecticut.

Frazao Insurance Agency has secured a key hire for insurance jobs in Connecticut.

While other agencies are eliminating insurance jobs in Connecticut, others are hiring, a good sign the economy is improving.

The agency announced the hiring of Antonio Paulo Pinto, a business and personal benefits specialist with over ten years of experience; including agency ownership and as a Key Accounts – Account Executive at UnitedHealthcare. Mr. Pinto has served on the Boards of Alderman and Education in the City of Waterbury; the board of the Portuguese Sport Club, and currently serves on boards or committees of several non-profit organizations, including the CT Chapter of the American Red Cross, Connecticut Community Foundation, and the United Way of Greater Waterbury.

One large health insurance company is considering cutting Connecticut insurance jobs.

Aetna recently announced that some job cuts are likely. While the company is currently doing better than many of its competitors, according to an article by the Hartford Courant, some jobs will probably be cut in the company’s effort to protect its competitive edge as the economy continues to declie. Aetna provides health, dental, pharmacy, group life and disability insurance.

“We will pursue all appropriate options to reduce costs, including selective reductions in staff,” Ronald A. Williams, chairman and chief executive, said in the article.
