Connecticut Education Jobs Increasing

Teaching professionals should be pleased to know Connecticut education jobs are increasing.

In June 2008, Connecticut’s education and health services industry employed 291,600 people, according to the Connecticut Department of Labor, a 2.2 percent increase from last year. The educational services industry employed 152,290 people in 2004, and that number is expected to reach 165,260 by 2014, an increase of 12,970 jobs, or 8.5 percent.

Nationally, the educational services industry employed 3,086,100 people in July 2008, according to the United States Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics, up from 2,962,700 last year. In June 2008, the industry saw 56,000 job openings and 96,000 hires. The industry saw an unemployment rate of 6.4 percent in July 2008.

Connecticut Retail Sales Jobs to Grow

There should be several available retail sales jobs in Connecticut throughout the foreseeable future.

The State of Connecticut currently employs 53,750 retail salespersons, and that number is expected to reach 58,720 by 2014, according to the Connecticut Department of Labor. There are projected to be 2,590 job openings per year.

The state as a whole employed a total of 1,705,800 people in June 2008, an increase of .3 percent from last year, according to United States Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. Connecticut’s unemployment rate that same month was 5.4 percent.

Good News for Those With Farming Jobs in Connecticut

Those who currently have, or are looking for, Connecticut jobs in farming will soon have some help.

In July, according to a State of Connecticut press release, Governor Jodi Rell announced the release of funds to help working farmers expand and improve their operations as part of a 10-year business plan.

“Now more than ever, our investment in Connecticut farms is critical to sustaining our food supply,” Rell said in the press release. “Grocery bills are getting higher all the time as gas and diesel prices rise. It makes good economic sense for families to take advantage of the quality products produced right here on Connecticut farms.”
