Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

While the nation as a whole is facing high unemployment and increasing job loss, Connecticut jobs are on the rise.

In June 2008, the State of Connecticut’s non-farm employment was 1,705,800, an increase of 3,600 jobs from the previous month. This is a gain of 5,900 jobs from June 2007. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics more than 850,000 such jobs will be created during the 10-year time period that will end in 2016. This means that one out of every 19 jobs created in the next decade will be some sort of high-tech position. This rise of 24 percent will likely cause a staffing problem due to the fact that the percentage of the population being trained for these jobs is not enough to meet the demand.
